San Giovanni Rotondo

San Giovanni Rotondo is part of Gargano community. Padre Pio from Pietrelcina is the symbol of this town, he’s one of the most important Christianity man who came in 1916 and died here in 1968. He worked magics during his life so he became Saint very quickly after his death.
Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” is a significant example of Padre Pio benefactions, even now it is operative and a great pride of Italian private health, founded on May 1956. Today a wonderful hospital little town rises up vegetation, next to the convent. The Hospital supplied with diagnostic services and advance equipment, has grown from 250 beds in 1956 to about 1200 today.
Already recognized as Regional General Hospital, in 1991 became “Recovering and Scientific Care Institute” with approval of the Ministry of Health. Its structure is about 300,000 cubic meters and its development knows no breaks, with the opening of new divisions and pavilions  so, in the country, it jokingly compared to “Factory of St. Peter”. There are approximately 2500 employees.
