Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia, is a mountain mass, also known as “Sperone d’Italia”. Its surface of 2000 m2 is composed by mounts and vast altiplanes that downgrade or they overlook the sea. Littoral zone is short and sandy where there are Varano and Lesina lakes and all the rest of it have got chalky stones. Gargano altiplane, thanks to its nature full of underground short rivers, shows different kinds of erosion both in surface and in depth. These ones created chasms and caves peopled in Prehistory; in fact artifacts of Paleolitic have found and ancient tombs came from iron age. Pagliacci and Montenero are the most famous caves.
For sun and sea lovers, this magnificent promontory gives 200 kms of coast, constituted of strands, creeks, pine forests, wonderful cliffs, dunes and caves. There are striking rock stack shaped great tower that emerge by the sea not far from the coast.
